Donna McKenna
Director of Tennis, Dataw Island Club
Donna McKenna joined Dataw Island Club in 1999 and became director of tennis in 2001. Her responsibilities include developing Dataw’s tennis program to captivate a diverse membership through group and private lessons; team practices; round robin sessions; holiday and special event mixers; new member clinics; member guest events; professional exhibitions along with United States Tennis Association League play and other home and away invitational events. In addition, she ensures the timely promotion and communication of all activities to strike a social and competitive balance with tennis enthusiasts at Dataw.
McKenna is also responsible for providing a safe, functional and esthetically beautiful facility and environment in which to play tennis and comfortably engage in social gatherings. She is also responsible for offering an inventory of tennis specific merchandise and tools to assist the members’ pursuit of perfecting their skills.
McKenna’s background as a high school physical education instructor led her to tennis as a hobby after graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in physical education.
To keep her competitive spirit alive, McKenna continues to compete in local, sectional and national tournaments. In 2006, she finished the season with a national ranking of 18 and a sectional ranking of 3 in Ladies’ Singles 50s. She is a United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) certified professional and was selected as the Tennis Association of Hilton Head (TAHHI) 2005 Pro of the Year.
