Gene L. Cox joined the Dataw Island Club in 2007 with more than 15 years of tennis instruction experience. His responsibilities include scheduling member court times, team practices and team matches. In addition, Cox also provides group and private lessons; team coaching drills; organizing round robin, intramural sessions and mixer events; new member development; and assisting in clubhouse maintenance and court conditioning. Cox became a certified PTR instructor in 1991 and is responsible for organizing the first sanctioned junior tennis tournament, which drew participants from throughout the Carolinas and Georgia, in Beaufort, S.C. in 1992. In addition to his duties at Dataw, Cox maintains an active schedule on the USTA Southern Senior Circuit.
