Dataw Island pro Koll Farman leads SC Open at May River

Charleston's Koll Farman and Charlotte's Barry Pierce made big moves up the leaderboard Wednesday at the Carolinas PGA Section's South Carolina Open at May River Golf Club.

Farman, the head pro at Dataw Island Club, shot a 6-under-par 66 in the second round to move into the lead at 7 under. He's one shot clear of Pierce, whose 9-under 63 was the best round of the tournament so far.

Bluffton's Jordan Pomeranz, the 2006 champion, is tied for third at 4 under. First-round leader Kelly Mitchum, a two-time S.C. Open champion, is fifth after an even-par 72 left him at 3 under for the tournament.

Bluffton amateur Justin Hoft is tied for sixth at 1 under after shooting 67 on Wednesday.

The final round gets under way at 7:30 a.m. today with leaders scheduled to tee off at 9:03 a.m.
